BIDDY EARLY (Brigidin Ni Maelmoceirige). Irish, Hornpipe. A Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Biddy Early (1798-1874), or 'Biddy the Healer' was a 'wise woman' of Feakle, County Clare, Ireland, renowned for her lore, remedies and council. Some believed she was a fairy or sidhe, or at least communicant with them, but her powers as a folk healer garnered her a reputation that transcended her west Ireland region. Early in the 20th century Irish immigrants from County Clare were called (somewhat derisively) 'Biddy Early's'.
