MOLL SHURKIE'S. Irish, Dance Tune (2/4 time). A Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune is labeled a 'jig' in Ryan's Mammoth Collection, referring not to the familiar 6/8 time Irish jig, but rather to a type of syncopated 19th century (clog-type) dance tune often played on the banjo. They were sometimes called "straight" jigs or "sand" jigs (the latter from the practice of spreading sand on the stage to reduce friction during a dance performance).
