MILITIA MARCH. English, March (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune was printed by London publishers Longman, Lukey & Co. in their Compleat Instructions for the Fife (c. 1770, p. 27), Thomas Bennet's The Compleat Tutor for the Fife (c. 1767), and Charles and Samuel Thompson in Thirty Favourite Marches, Book 2 (1770, p 9). In America it was printed by Philadelphia music publisher George Willig in The Compleat Tutor for the Fife (1805). The march was entered into a few period musicians manuscript copybooks in England and North America, including those of flute player Henry Beck (American, 1786), and Benjamin Cooke (perhaps northeast England, c. 1770).
