MARCH TWENTY-FIFTH REGIMENT. Scottish, English; March (whole time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The Twenty-Fifth Regiment was designated the 25th (Edinburgh) Regiment of Foot in the July, 1751, organization of the British army. When it was reorganized in 1782 it became the county regiment of Sussex and was designated the 25th (the Sussex) Regiment of Foot. The regiment was awarded the right to bear the emblem of the Sphinx for their role in the Battle of Alexandria in 1801, a few years prior to Aird's publication.
