LIGHTHOUSE ON THE BOG, THE. Irish, Air. Composed by flute player Vincent Broderick (1920-2008), originally from Bullaun, near Loughrea, County Galway, near by the Turoe Stone, a famous Iron Age monument. Carramore bog lay next to the family homestead, a light could be seen from the house at nighttime from the bog. The title comes from a complaint by Broderick's father to his wife for being to often kept awake by the merriment and music late of an evening: "Annie, what the hell kind of house are you keeping at all? This house is like a bloody lighthouse. There's a light every night of the week here, all night long" (Vallely & Piggott, Blooming Meadows, 1998).
