The hornpipe was entered into the music manuscript collection of Lake District musician William Irwin (1822-1889), dated 1838. Kendal [1], anciently known as Kirkby in Kendal or Kirkby Kendal, is a market town and civil parish within the South Lakeland District of Cumbria, England.
