O WHITE MAIVE ("O Maeb Gleigeal" or "Maebh Gheal"). Irish, "Very Slow" Air (3/4 time). G Minor (O'Neill): G Dorian (Bunting). Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. The melody given in O'Neill appears to be taken from Bunting's 1840 collection. O'Sullivan (1983) points out that Bunting altered this version in several ways from the one he collected in his MS from his source (which appears in O'Sullivan's 1983 edition of Bunting): he added passing notes, changed the key signature by adding a flat, and changed the form of the piece to make it more symmetrical.

Source for notated version: Bunting noted the tune from "Kitty Doo, at Armagh, 1780."
