MR. PITTS MINUET. English, Minuet (3/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune is perhaps named for the English Prime Minister, William Pitt, first Earl of Chatham. Pitt was a sympathizer with American colonists during the Revolutionary War. The melody appears in the [James] Gillespie Manuscript of Perth (1768, p. 76), but was earlier published in the 1750’s minuet collection published by David Rutherford.
