MISS LUCY JOHNSTON'S COMPLIMENTS TO NIEL GOW. AKA - "Miss L. Johnston's Compliments to Neil Gow." Scottish, Slow Strathspey or Reel. C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Gow): AAB (Evans, Hunter). Composed by Lucy Johnston of Hilton (1765-1797), who was "one of a number of aristocratic amateur composers of the late 18th century. A noted belle of the Edinburgh Dance Assembly, she was much admired by the Gows, Burns and Robert Mackintosh, who dedicated his second collection to her" (Hunter, 1979).
