MASTER FOX MAULE'S BIRTHDAY. Scottish, Strathspey (whole time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by fiddler-composer biography:Robert Petrie (1767-1830) of Kirkmichael, Perthshire. According to Mr. Troup (he dedicated his Third Collection to Francis Troup), this strathspey was among his best compositions. The title honors the infant Fox Maule-Ramsay, 11th Earl of Dalhousie (1801-1874), the eldest son of Scottish landowner and politician William Maule, 1st Baron Panmure, and a grandson of George Ramsay, 8th Earl of Dalhousie. He was christened Fox as a compliment to Charles James Fox, the great Whig.
