LAMENT FOR MICHAEL DELARGY. Irish, Slow Air (4/4 time). D Major ('A' and 'C' parts) & G Major ('B' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). ABC. Composed by fiddler and pianist Josephine Keegan (b. 1935), of Mullaghbawn, south County Armagh, on the day of the funeral of her friend Michael Delargy (1942-1992), who made her violin. Delargy, a science teacher in Newry, repaired violins and made under 20 instruments, uniquely naming them after family members. Keegan's violin is Jane Catherine, named after his eldest daughter. Keegan wrote three other tunes with Delargy in mind, "Michael Delargy Hornpipe," "Hawthorn Hill," and "Dublin Road Reel," which together form his address: Michael Delargy, Hawthorne Hill, Dublin Road, Newry.
