HIGHLAND PIPER [2], THE. English, March (6/8 time). A march played by the former British army 1st Battalion The Royal Hampshire Regiments, the 2nd Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment, and the 2nd Battalion Essex Regiment, according to David Murray [Music of the Scottish Regiments, Edinburgh, 1994, p. 211]. Murray points out the melody is out of range of the bagpipe chanter, and suggests it may be of Irish origin, picked up from a fifer or fiddler.
