DUCKING THE CARLE. Scottish, Pipe Reel (whole time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The title "Ducking the Carle" comes from a song set to the tune with the line, "Bhogainn anns an allt e" (I would duck him in the burn), which can be found in Keith Norman MacDonald's The Vocal Dance Music of the Scottish Gaels (1901). The melody is better known by the title "Pease Strae" or "Clean Peas Straw" also with a song text called "Nam biodh agam giobal bodaich" (If I had a ragged/lecherous old man).
