BEHIND THE HAYSTACK [1]. AKA and see "Barr na Feirste," "Bhláthach Mhuimhneach (An)," "Box the Monkey," "Munster Buttermilk (2)," "Squeeze Your Thighs," "Take Her or Leave Her." Irish, Double Jig (6/8 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCC (Boys/Lough, Mallinson, Miller): AA'BB'CC' (Vallely). As a four-part melody called "Box the Monkey," it appears in the music manuscript collection of cleric James Goodman (1828-1896). Another early printing is in Kerr's Merry Melodies, vol. 1 (c. 1875) as "Munster Buttermilk (1)."
