IT THUNDERED IN THE EAST. American, Reel. USA, southwestern Pa. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The tune is similar to minstrel Dan Emmett's "Jordan Is a Hard Road to Travel" ("Kingdom Coming", "Year of Jubilo"); Bayard (1981) thinks it likely they may both have been derived from some common ancestor.
