DOC HARRIS' HORNPIPE. American, Hornpipe. B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'ACC'DEE'F: AA'BBCC'AA'DD (Cranford/Holland): ADABC. Named in honor of Dr. Perry F. Harris, an enthusiast who devoted his efforts to helping promote and preserve American fiddling through the Grand Masters Fiddler's Contest, held each year at Opryland in Nashville, Tennessee. The tune was popularized by Hickman, County, Tenn., fiddler Howdy Forrester (who played with Roy Acuff for many years) and is sometimes attributed to him. A part of the core bluegrass fiddle repertoire.
