CALLOWAY [2]. Old-Time. Primarily known as a banjo tune, although a version was fiddled by John Christian of Webster County, West Virginia. According to Gerrald Milnes, Christian remembered it was the favorite tune of a black buck dancer who once danced at bars and county fairs in central West Virginia. The tune appears unrelated to the "Callahan" family of tunes. Variants abound, some quite different from each other, although the main tune heard today as "Calloway" appears to be derived from the Hammons family of Pocahontas County, West Virginia.
