BOAT MAN [8], THE. Scottish, Slow Air (4/4 time) and Jig. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDDEEFFGGHH (air and variations). Scottish poet Allan Ramsay used "The Boatman" as the indicated tune for his song "The Bonny Scot", printed in his Tea Table Miscellany (1724, p. 315[1]). The melody also appears in the 1840 music manuscript collection of multi-instrumentalist John Rook (Waverton, Cumbria).
