ROSS HOUSE. AKA and see "Miss Hamilton (3)." Scottish, Country Dance Tune and Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. John Glen (1891) finds the earliest appearance of the tune in print in Neil Stewart's Collection of the Newest and Best Reels or Country Dances (p. 26), variously dated as 1761 and 1775. The same melody was also printed in London by Thomas Straight and Thomas Skillern in Two Hundred & Four Favourite Country Dances, vol. 1 (1775, p. 38) and by Skillern in Skillern's Compleat Collection of Two Hundred & Four Reels...Country Dances (1780). There are similarities to “Peggy Menzies” but they differ enough so that they may not be cognate.

The tune was entered in the music manuscript collection of Joshua Gibbons as "Miss Hamilton (3)," but that title seems unique to that MS.
